The Honourable Rebecca Alty was elected to the House of Commons in April 2025, as the Member of Parliament for the Northwest Territories. She was appointed Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations in May 2025.
About Rebecca Alty

The Honourable Rebecca Alty was elected to the House of Commons in April 2025, as the Member of Parliament for the Northwest Territories. She was appointed Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations in May 2025.

Minister Alty was born and raised in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. She has spent her career in leadership roles across a variety of sectors, from not-for-profit to industry to government.

Minister Alty served as a Yellowknife city councillor for six years before deciding to run for Mayor. She won Yellowknife’s mayoral election in 2018 and again in 2022. While Mayor of Yellowknife, she also served as the President of the Northwest Territories Association of Communities, and executive member of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. Through her work and volunteer roles, she has visited most of the 33 communities in the Northwest Territories and looks forward to visiting them all during her term.

Outside of politics, she previously served as Executive Director of the Stanton Territorial Hospital Foundation; Director of Communications and Community Development at AVENS – A Community for Seniors; and Manager of Communities and External Relations at Diavik Diamond Mine.
